Great Lehigh Valley Restaurants for Vegetarians

 

We have some truly flavorful vegetarian food in the Valley. From moist and delicious veggie burgers to truly creative vegetarian takes on traditionally meat-heavy meals, there are plenty of dishes across the Valley that can satisfy vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. I asked readers to share some of their favorites and I threw in a few in of my own. They are in no particular order and this is not meant to be a comprehensive list:

The Lehigh Valley has lots of options for meat-eating and non-meat-eating friends to dine happily together. Readers said one of their favorite local food trucks is the Taza Truck, with its fresh Egyptian fare. Several months ago the owners opened The Taza Stop, a permanent spot. It’s inside the Easton Public Market, an indoor food market and dining destination on Northampton Street.

Like the food truck, The Taza Stop has some amazing vegetarian dishes along with delicious meat dishes. Among the vegetarian dishes you can enjoy: Kushari, a classic Egyptian dish with seasoned lentils, rice and pasta topped with chick peas, caramelized onions and a tangy red sauce; and Hala’s Hummus, a garlicky Egyptian version of the classic dish with a lemony, vinegar twist.

For me, one of the most interesting dishes is their Ta’ameya Sandwich, an Egyptian style falafel made with fava beans instead of chickpeas. It has a decidedly different flavor, full of herbaceous flavor and a soft green color. Taza also has some “ovo-vegetarian” options, which allows for the consumption of eggs but not dairy products.
